US Duct Spark Traps Have Evolved

Kim Williams | October 15, 2021

The US Duct Spark Trap continues to attract attention. The simple and yet effective design, coupled with its rugged construction, offers the seller and their customers a cost-effective solution to a growing and typically expensive problem — reducing the sparks and fire hazards from grinding, welding, and cutting applications.

All Spark Traps Aren't Created Equal

Most Spark Traps simply swirl the air, so embers travel at a relative velocity of zero and many make it through the spark trap just fine. US Duct's patented Spark Trap creates a tortuous path by tumbling the air stream back onto itself, which forces sparks to come in contact with more oxygen and gives them additional time to burn out. Our Spark Trap effectively extinguishes sparks and collects the debris before they can exit the trap.

Spark Trap Design

US Duct's Spark Trap shown on its side to give a view of the drop out tube at the bottom, which is a standard feature on all US Duct Spark Traps. The retention of the spark in the trap gives the potential for settling of dust within the trap in heavier dust loading applications. Therefore it is not surprising we’ve had requests to make provision for applications with large amounts of grinding dust. The retention of the spark in the trap gives the potential for settling of dust within the trap in heavier dust loading applications.

To accommodate this we have added clean-out doors as a standard to all spark traps. Going one step further, US Duct is now offering a version of the spark trap with a drop-out tube.

This tube is connected to the unit with a double boot tap to create a funnel. Any settling dust falls into the tube and then into a sealed container below the spark trap. This has proven to be a great solution for applications such as shot blasting, heavy grinding, equipment manufacturing, and ovens.

Do Spark Traps Really Work?

Our Customers Say It Best

"I was surprised at how much grit was in the bucket. There’s a Grecon system just past the trap and it has not activated. Running about two months."

Spark Trap Sizing

And there’s more… our Spark Trap goes BIG!

Although our Spark Trap Pricing Sheet only lists sizes up to 12″, we’ve had a lot of requests and purchases for larger units (like in the photo above).

We have the expertise and fabrication abilities to produce Spark Traps in larger sizes. Get in touch with a Duct Guy for pricing and specs.
